The kids’ versions take their textures form the adult version - one merged file. In the merged file there is a file called HairOverlay, and if you want to edit the hair colors, you do it in this file. It’s not a method that suits all hats - and it only works if you have Growing Together (afaik). Hair color is added automagically, if you change the hair color of the sim, the hair color of this hat-hair will also change.
